Can Cats Eat Sweets?
Sugar Is Not Good For Cats
A huge NO!
Even if you adore your cat, feeding them jelly beans will not do them any good as they contain sugar which is bad and unhealthy for cats and causes gastro intestinal problems .
To make things worse, there are a couple of brands of jelly beans that contain xylitol which is an artificial sweetener and this is really dangerous for cats.
Xylitol is toxic to them and causes a sudden and drastic drop in their blood sugar level, vomiting, and in some cats, seizures.
Your beautiful furbaby can also develop internal haemorrhaging and some cats suffer liver failure.
Feeding your cat jelly beans or other candy Is a really bad thing to do and will harm your cat.
Chocolate is equally bad for cats.
Which is why you should NEVER give your cat sweets
Not even to try
Consider Your Cat’s Stomach
Feline stomachs are very different from humans, so the foods that we enjoy are not necessarily good for them.
The other important consideration is the size of your cat, compared to you.
You may think
[su_quote]‘one small jelly bean won’t matter’[/su_quote]
But your cat’s stomach is so small in comparison that it really will matter a great deal and you would not want to see your cat become ill and distressed within one hour.
So now you know sweets is a no go area
I know what you’re thinking…
What Snacks Can I Give My Cat?
There are a range of different cat treats available in pet shops and supermarkets and these have been designed especially for cats and are suitable for their digestive systems.
Cats are carnivore so protein is essential to their diet, but fruit and vegetables are not necessary to keep them in good health.
You will be surprised which ones cats can eat and often enjoy!
If you feel that you really want to give your puss cat something from your plate, a small piece of any of the following are good:
- Steamed carrots, green beans or peas
- A small amount of cooked egg
- Any berries as they are low in sugar
- Melon
- Cooked pumpkin – a teaspoonful can help ease constipation
