What Is The Litter Robot

The litter robot is a litter box that cleans itself

It’s basically a automatic self cleaning litter box

So you don’t have to ever clean the litter box again

A cat parent that never cleans cat litter. Pretty cool right

How Does It Work?

It’s pretty straight forward

Here’s how it works in 5 steps after your cat exists the litter robot a count down timer starts which allows the litter to clump before the clean cycle begins

  1. So following the preset 3, 7 or 15 minutes delay the globe slowly starts to rotate
  2. The patented sifting process separates the clumps from the clean litter
  3. The clumps is then deposited into a carbon filtered drawer that is located below
  4. The globe then goes back to the normal position leaving a clean bed of litter ready to be used again
  5. Empty the waste drawer when indicated and then simply add new litter as needed

That’s it

The litter robot does all the work

You just have to remove the waste and add litter

How awesome is that!

Here’s a quick video showing you how it works

Here’s why you should get your Bengal cat litter robot

Frequently Asked Questions About The Litter Box

Why Won’t My Bengal Cat Use The Litter Box

When your Bengal cat (or any other type of cat) will not use their litter box, it is because they are trying to communicate that there is a problem.

In essence, if you sort the problem, you cat will regain their confidence and the litter box will be back in use.

The easiest place to start your investigation is with the litter box itself.

A change of location?

Cats are definitely ‘creatures of habit’ and will not take kindly to their litter box being suddenly relocated – especially if the litter box is now in a noisy place where your Bengal cat cannot relax and enjoy some privacy.

You cat will not take kindly to being in an area where children are playing or where they are now on ‘full view’.

If you think this is the root of the problem, move the litter box back to where it was before, or if it is where it has always been, maybe put a large leafy plant in front of it so that your Bengal cat does not feel so exposed.

Have you been keeping the litter box clean?

Bengal cats, like all moggies are really clean animals who spend a great deal of time grooming themselves and are fastidious in their toilet routine.

They do not like soiled litter trays and can be easily put off by this. Ensure that you clean the litter box daily by ‘scooping the poop’ and change the cat litter regularly.

If this is not the problem, have you by any chance changed your brand of cat litter recently?

You might well appreciate that it was on special offer in the supermarket, but your beautiful Bengal cat might not!

Cats are very fussy about cat litter especially if it hurts their feet or smells strange.

Oh yes! The other big ‘no no’ is to clean out the litter box with any cleaning product smelling of lemons – you may think it smells lovely and fresh, but your cat will be disgusted as they hate lemons!

If this has happened, the best solution is to use a proper enzyme cleaner as you will feel doubly confident – the litter box will be ultra clean and there will be no tell tale fragrance either!

Does your cat still fit the litter box?

The weeks go flying by and sometimes it is hard to keep track on things and maybe the relative size of your cat and their litter box could be one!

Cats love to have easy access into their litter box and for it to be large enough for them – especially for the stone flicking routine after they have finished their business!

Size can be a real issue with hooded cat litter boxes as you cat will feel very uncomfortable if they are a tight fit in it.

Is your Bengal cat stressed?

Cats are very sensitive creatures and can get easily stressed and one way they can tell their owners is by using some clean laundry and not the litter box for their toilet – it will certainly get a reaction!

There are a number of stressful situations that could have occurred in your household and affected your moggy.

The biggest one is a change in environment – have you moved house? If yes, it will take a few weeks for your cat to feel confident of your new abode.

Have you had a new addition to your family?

Have you just had a baby?

Do you have a relative or friend staying with you?

Your Bengal boss will react to both situations negatively for a while.

Of course if you have just added to your private zoo with a new cat or heavens, a dog, both new additions will pose a threat to your gorgeous moggy, who may well have abandoned using the litter box and gone ‘into hiding’.

Has your cat got a medical problem?

There are a number of medical issues that could be causing your cat great discomfort and mean that they are not making it to their litter box successfully and having to do their toilet wherever.

These are some of the medical conditions that can cause these problems.

Getting your cat checked by the Vet as soon as possible is always a good idea.

If your cat is avoiding their litter tray, have you just had their claws removed?

If the answer is yes, their paws will be very sensitive and it is best to switch to something really soft like soil for a few days whilst they heal.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

UTIs are fairly fairly common in cats and can be really painful for them.

If you watch your Bengal closely, you might see that they are straining to urinate- and then producing very little, if they are, they are in pain and could soon associate this pain with the litter box.

Other potential medical problems

If you find your cat is actually needing to pee very often and not making it to the litter box they could have a kidney infection or kidney stones – a telltale sign of this is blood in their urine.

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder in female cats and this too causes them to strain to pee and again they will do this in strange places and there is often traces of blood in their urine.

If your Bengal appears unusually thirsty – and is always thirsty-  and seems to have trouble controlling their urine, then they might well have feline diabetes and this really needs to be checked out quickly.

Another condition to consider is old age.

Sometimes as cats age, they cannot control their bladders as well as they used to and will start peeing in unusual places.

A good solution is to place some extra litter boxes around the house – for example have them on both floors- so that your cat does not have so far to dash.

What to look out for when choosing a litter box

There are just so many to choose from that it can be really daunting!

You need to think about the type that will suit your cat best before you head for the shop.

The fact is that the size of many of the litter boxes on sale is too small, making them far from ideal.

Remember, that you should have one litter box per cat as they definitely do not like sharing and these must be located well apart so that one cat can not view the other cat using their litter box – and we thought we were fussy!

* You need a litter box that your cat can fit in comfortably and has room to turn around in and to dig.

* Litter boxes with medium height walls are ideal for the average-sized cat and kittens.

* Litter boxes with one low wall are perfect for older, less agile cats (or those with mobility problems) and also kittens.

* High sided litter boxes are perfect if you have a cat that loves spraying everywhere with cat litter!

* Covered litter boxes are the perfect way to contain cat litter and are much loved by cats who prefer privacy – they must be cleaned everyday to ensure that there is not a build up of ammonia.

Bengal Cat Litter – Which One To Buy

Like all cats, Bengal cats are fussy when it comes to their cat litter and they also like their litter box to be spacious and the litter to be quite deep so that they can dig easily.

It is well worth trying a few different brands to find the one that your cat is happiest with.

One brand that regularly gets approval from Bengals and their owners is Pretty Litter.

This is a new generation cat litter that has been described as ‘the world’s smartest cat litter’.

Pretty Litter is an absorbent non-clumping cat litter that traps all odours effectively and then eliminates moisture – this is great news for cat owners as the smell of used cat litter is eradicated.

The other huge bonus is that the cat litter needs cleaning just once a day and changing much less frequently.

The huge bonus in using Pretty Litter is that it changes colour to tell you that your Bengal has a potential health problem as a change in the pH balance in your cat’s urine has been recorded so you can get medical help for your cat sooner – this is a real bonus as cats are notorious for hiding illnesses.

On the practical side, Pretty Litter is more cost effective and creates no dust either (making it perfect for asthmatics). Pretty Litter is a subscription cat litter so it gets delivered right to your front door – having a cat has never been easier!

You can check out my in-depth review of Pretty Litter by clicking the link below

Pretty Litter Review

What if I run out of cat litter?

Don’t worry, we have all done this once!

You will have to think quickly, because otherwise you will have an upset moggy to deal with!

Cats love cleanliness and do not take kindly to dirty cat litter which they find off-putting and it will deter them from using the litter box.

If you do have a problem, wash the litter box out really thoroughly, dry it and then fill it with garden soil to the same depth – cats are usually very happy with this.

You can alternatively use shredded newspaper or sand – but be careful if you have a children’s sand pit in your garden as this is giving your cat ‘the green flag’ to use it regularly.

Do cats like enclosed litter boxes

This question is definitely the feline equivalent of a ‘hot potato’!

There are colorful arguments for and against, with many animal lovers protesting that cats hate enclosed boxes and they are only popular with owners, because they suit the décor of homes better and are not as unsightly as normal cat litter boxes.

A recent study was conducted by the Ross University of Veterinary Medicine and its findings were published in the Journal of Feline Medicine.

The study found that most cats had no preference! 27 cats took part in the research. Four cats (15%) preferred the covered litter box and four cats (15%) preferred the uncovered box – the rest of the cats (70%) didn’t show any preference.

If you have decided that you would prefer to use an enclosed litter box for your cat, there are some points to consider first.

Many enclosed litter boxes are too small. Ideally the enclosed litter box should be 1.5 times the length and 1.5 the height of your cat otherwise you cat may not use it because it feels too cramped.

Some cats like the feeling of being enclosed, but many others do not – especially if there is a pungent smell of cat urine.

To make an enclosed litter box attractive to your cat, you will have to ensure that you scoop it several times a day and clean it out when you change the cat litter – using a special enzyme cleaner that will clean thoroughly, but leave no smell.

You must also choose your brand of cat litter carefully as any fragrance will be intensified in the covered litter box and your cat could dislike this.

How To Get Your Bengal Cat To Use The Litter Box

As soon as you bring the cat litter box home, wipe it out carefully with an enzyme cleaner to ensure that it is perfectly clean and has no smell.

Let your cat become familiar with their new litter box and set it up quickly in your chosen location, by standing it on a large piece of newspaper and filling it with the cat litter of your choice.

This part will be ‘trial and error’  because some Bengals love to feel the bottle of the box when they are digging, but most Bengals prefer a thicker layer of cat litter.

If you are training a new kitten to use the cat litter box, it is best to locate it in a small room like a bathroom.

Make sure that the kitten can get in and out of the tray easily. Stay with your kitten and play with them close to the box – especially when you predict that they will need to use it.

Every success should be rewarded with a kitten treat and grown up cats deserve them too as will definitely encourage them to love their litter box – mission accomplished!
